“The English” by Jeremy Paxman

The first non-fiction of 2016 finished.

Full of very interesting insights and sometimes amusing read.  The extensive notes at the end testifies to the author’s vigorous research.  Still, packing too many anecdotes and snippets, the writer’s main message, contained in the last few pages, is crowded under a sort of Wikipedia way of writing and it does little to inspire.  Too journalistic, perhaps?  Then again, I am probably being unreasonably harsh at the worthy effort.  It at least makes me think twice before heading for the second hand book shop for its value as a reference book.

その精神的よりどころであった世界帝国を失ったイングランド人が、現代社会で自分たちのアイデンティティーをどのように意識して再構築するのか。面白い本でした。
